Seven's Heaven Wildlife Rehabilitation, Inc, provides a safe haven for injured and orphaned wildlife, as well as displaced exotic animals. Launda Lee is a full-time licensed wildlife rehabilitator who provides year-round care, 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all of the animals at Seven’s Heaven. Launda Lee has also begun fostering animals whose time has run out at the Kosciusko Animal Shelter as well as those animals who have special needs.
Located on over 3 wooded acres that include a pond, a lake, and a wetland marsh, backing up to a nature reserve and surrounded by many acres of wilderness, most animals are released right at Seven’s Heaven, after their period of care and rehabilitation. Their care and rehabilitation includes access to food and care until they are able to care for themselves and return to the wild. Most often the animals need to be bottle fed for many weeks before they can eat on their own. Some domestic animals brought to Seven’s Heaven are given to good homes and other, more exotic animals find a permanent home right at Seven’s Heaven.
Seven's Heaven is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization funded solely by donations. No one is ever turned away, no animal is ever refused. Launda Lee give lectures and demonstrations on wild animal “Do's and Don'ts” and also provides tours of the facility in an effort to educate the public about Indiana's wildlife.
Just a little over a year ago, Fort Wayne resident Ken Prather had an idea, and it turned out to be a good one. Prather, who is disabled, is an avid animal lover, and has been volunteering as a docent (tour guide or educator) at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo for years. He decided to make a connection between the animals that he so loved and children who could use a little joy in their lives.
"I came up with this idea because I felt it would really give children a chance to escape from their worries for one day, and enjoy the animals as much as I do," Prather said, "The Make-A-Wish program is wonderful, but sometimes their excursions are long and arduous for very ill children. My program gets them out for a good portion of the day, and gets them to places that are in close proximity to Fort Wayne. This includes the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, Seven’s Heaven Wildlife Refuge, and a horseback riding farm in the Syracuse area.”
The childrens' day at Seven's Heaven will be filled with animal experiences, food, fishing, and time to heal. We need volunteers for this program. We will need a place for the children to rest and eat (see gazebo request). Come to our yearly meeting on Wednesday March 26, 2008 for more details.
For more information and if you would like to donate to the DAY AWAY program you can contact Ken Prather at 637-1705 or e-mail him at pratherken@yahoo.com.
All donations to the DAY AWAY program will be divided equally with Seven's Heaven Wildlife Refuge.
Day Away Program
Animal Rescues
Over the last several months, over 50 dogs and cats were found forever homes during their stay at Seven’s Heaven. This vital program has saved wonderful animals from the stress of a shelter stay or even death because their time had run out. Thank you to all who adopted, found the forever homes, and supported this wonderful program. Not only are "domestic" animals rescued, all animals are rescued, cared for, protected, and loved at Seven's Heaven.
Last year, Seven’s Heaven helped over 200 raccoons alone. On site is a nursery complete with a heater for the winter months. Some of the animals cared for in the nursery included Leloo, an injured puppy (who was thought to be a coyote-hybrid pup), Mittens, a cat that was hit by a car and brought to Seven’s Heaven near death – both of whom survived because of the wonderful care provided by Launda Lee. There was the cougar cub that now lives in Center Point, Indiana, a coyote whose owner was no longer able to care for her that now lives in the Coyote Rescue Center. There are countless deer, rabbits, skunks, birds, horses, goats, pigs, possum that have passed through Seven's Heaven and the loving care of Launda Lee.

Membership Information
There is no fee for membership. We have a meeting once a year. We send out newsletters to let our members know what is going on and what we need. We do have volunteers that come and help and would love to have you on our volunteer roster. We need people to come and help with the daily chores, feedings, cage and stall cleaning, bottle and laundry washing, exercising and giving love to our tiny babies. We need foster mothers. These are dedicated people who work under our permit and take at least 2 bottle babies home and do the round the clock feeding until the babies are ready for weaning, at which point they come back to Seven's Heaven farm. We have school kids and adults who donate their time and energy to help us here at Seven's Heaven, so we can keep our commitment to never turning any animal away.
Yearly Meeting at Blue Lion: Wednesday March 26th, 2008. Dinner will be at 6pm and the meeting will start at 7pm. Ken Prather will speak about the “Day Away” program and all are welcome to share about their year at Seven’s Heaven. A Fundraising Committee will be organized and the Board of Directors will be formed. Please attend and join us in preparing to rescue more wonderful animals.
Forever Homes Needed
Almost daily, new arrivals come to Seven's Heaven. Some will stay and become part of the family, others will be released back into the wild, and some are in desparate need of a forever home with a loving family.
Seven's Heaven survives solely on donations. A tremendous "Thank You" to all who helped in 2007. Without you, Seven's Heaven could not have completed its mission. Your efforts have allowed animals to live and be released into the wild, to educate our communities on the needs of wildlife and the environment, and to rescue and place companion and farm animals into loving and permanent homes. The recent December donations allowed the 2007 debts to be paid and for us to start this year with the main focus of paying off line of credit used to buy formulas, supplies, and necessities which have not been donated. We need several thousand dollars for the past formula bill and for the spring influx of new animals. Funds are low, but the need is high.
If you would like to make a donation to Seven's Heaven, simply mail a check made payable to Seven's Heaven to Our Seven's Heaven, 6027 S 550 E Pierceton IN 46562. All donations are tax deductible!
